The Math Section Is Where Most People Fail
Roughly 70% of aptitude test failures happen because of math. Not because the math is hard — it’s standard algebra and fractions — but because:

- Word problems require translation skill, not just arithmetic

The Reading Section Is Easier But Timed Tightly
Reading is 36 questions in 30 minutes. Roughly 50 seconds per question including reading time. The trick is reading the question first, then scanning the passage. Most people fail reading because of time, not understanding.
What Score Do You Actually Need?
Minimum is usually 4.0 on a 1-9 scale. Competitive is 6.0+. In big urban locals (Chicago 134, NYC 3, LA 11), you basically need 6+ to get called from the eligibility list any time soon.
How Long to Study
Most applicants who pass first try put in 20-30 minutes a day for 3-6 weeks. The pattern that works:
- Week 1-2: fractions and basic algebra by hand
- Week 3: number sequences and mechanical reasoning
- Week 4: timed full practice tests
